When you have a family to protect, it's easy to see the benefits of enhanced coverage. Inflation guard - your base benefit increases automatically to help keep your benefit amount in line with the increasing cost of living. This benefit increases for a maximum of 10 years, up to 125% of the Principle Sum. Already have accident insurance? This benefit pays in addition to any other insurance. Your coverage for Voluntary Benefits terminates on the earlier of: a) the date the Policy is terminated; b) the date You request that Voluntary Benefits be terminated; c) the date You cease to be a resident of the United States or d) the Premium Due Date on which You fail to pay any required premium for Voluntary Benefits, subject to the Individual Grace Period Provision. Benefit options - You can purchase $25,000 to $200,000 base benefit amount of Enhanced coverage, and you automatically receive the following additional benefits. Please note that these additional benefits are available for the member only, not for the spouse/domestic partner, or dependent children:
- An additional $100,000 for accidental death while riding as a passenger on any common carrier, such as, an airplane, train, bus or taxi.
- An additional $50,000 for workplace accidental death.
- An additional $25,000 for accidental death resulting from a motor vehicle accident or as a pedestrian.
"Base benefit amount" means the amount you want your beneficiaries to receive in case of accidental death. No matter what base amount you choose, these additional benefits always apply. Depending on the type of accident, your beneficiaries could receive the additional benefits. Example1: If an accidental death** results from a motor vehicle accident or as a pedestrian, your beneficiary would receive the base benefit plus $25,000. If you purchased a base benefit amount of $100,000 of Enhanced coverage, your beneficiary would receive $130,000 ($100,000 base benefit amount + $25,000 for motor vehicle accidental death + $5,000 no-cost coverage). Example 2: If an accidental death** occurs due to injury sustained while riding as a passenger on any common carrier - such as an airplane, train, bus or taxi - your beneficiary would receive an additional $100,000. If you purchased a base benefit amount of $100,000 of Enhanced coverage, your beneficiary would receive $201,000 ($100,000 base benefit amount + $100,000 for common carrier accidental death + $1,000 no-cost coverage). - You can purchase this coverage for:
- yourself only - individual, or
- yourself and your entire family - including spouse/domestic partner and dependent children.
**Death must occur within 365 days of the injury in order for the benefit to be payable to the beneficiary.  - No-cost coverage - only for union members ages 18 and over.
- Enhanced coverage: member or family eligibility
- Union members and spouse or domestic partner ages 18 and over.
- Spouse or domestic partner and children can be combined into one family policy with member.
- Union member and spouse or domestic partner must both reside in the U.S.
- Children are covered to age 19 (24 if full-time student).
- Available in all states and the District of Columbia - not available in Canada or U.S. territories.
